Summary of the Proposal

RE Projects Development (REPD) will shortly submit a planning application for a battery energy storage system (BESS) on land at Lower Penn, Wolverhampton, WV4 4UH. The application will be made to South Staffordshire Council (SSC).

The proposed development will be separated across two parcels of land – the eastern parcel (approximately 0.5ha) and the western parcel (approximately 2ha) that sit adjacent to the Lower Penn Sewage Treatment Works. The development will occupy an area of approximately 2.5 hectares, with battery units on western parcel and a 132/33kV switchyard located on the eastern parcel. There will be landscaping and screening in place to shield the development from views.

Part of the site is currently being used as a temporary construction compound for upgrades to the Lower Penn Sewage Treatment Works. Prior to this proposal, the site has had mixed use.
